Welcome to Suncoast Pet—the only pet publication exclusive to Sarasota, Manatee & DeSoto counties!
Launched by founder and publisher Candace T. Botha in April 2007 as Sarasota Pet, the publication has grown from a 12-page newsletter to a 48- to 64-page, full-color magazine that quickly has become the "go-to" source for information about our regional pet community.
In February 2015, Sarasota Pet merged with its sister publication, Manatee Pet, by changing the publication's name to Suncoast Pet.
Published six times a year, each issue of Suncoast Pet is jam-packed with tips animal lovers need to know to take care of their pets, written by leading pet experts in our community. But that's not all...you'll also find all kinds of information about all the animal-related happenings in Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties.
In addition to distributing the magazine in hundreds of locations in Sarasota and Manatee counties, we also publish each issue of Suncoast Pet online!
Read every issue of your favorite pet publication from cover to cover and find active links to all of our advertisers' websites and e-mail addresses. With just one click, you will instantly be directed to sites where you can discover the information about pet health and find all of the products and resources you need!

2025 Pet Calendar Contest!
2025 calendar and the cover of this issue of Suncoast Pet!
Louie Blue was, in fact, one of more than 100 contest entrants who, together, earned more than $28,900 to date, with additional earnings anticipated from the sale of calendars!
To celebrate the success of the calendar, Sherri and a volunteer committee from HSLWR will host the “Whiskers & Wags Pet Calendar Launch Paw-ty” on Saturday, November 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Boo’s Ice House & Dog Bar, located at 1314 10th Street in Sarasota.
The “Hollywood Glam” gathering will include food and drink specials, raffles, a 50/50 drawing, live music by “Hang Time,” a photo booth and a runaway contest for pets dressed in their Tinseltown best! And I can promise you this: It’s going to be one party you won’t want to miss!

About the Current Issue
Did you do a double take when you saw the pup pictured on the cover of Suncoast Pet’s October/November issue, perhaps thinking, “Hmmm, I think I’ve seen this pup before?”
Well, if you are a faithful Suncoast Pet reader, you may recognize Louie Blue, the Australian Labradoodle that was photographed on a paddleboard and featured on the cover of the May/June 2023 issue of the magazine!
So, why in the world—with all the pups in the Suncoast community—did Louie Blue land on the magazine’s cover not one, but twice?
In May of this year, Louie Blue was the grand prize winner of the “Whisker & Wags 2025 Pet Calendar Contest,” created and hosted by Sherri Krams of Moments Unleashed Photography to raise funds for the Humane Society at Lakewood Ranch (HSLWR)!
As the top vote getter in the contest, Louie Blue received the most votes, earning $5,130 for Myakka City animal group, and won the grand prize: The cover of the Whiskers & Wags

W.O.O.F. & P.A.W.S.
Animal groups, shelters and sanctuaries within our community—and throughout the United States—are alarmingly overcrowded, with many unable to rescue perfectly healthy and adoptable dogs, cats and other animals that are facing certain euthanasia because there is simply nowhere for them to go.
In 2023, Suncoast Pet launched "W.O.O.F. & P.A.W.S." in order to shine a spotlight on these often overlooked dogs, cats and other animals that have hearts filled with love and are ready to find their person or family!
Here's how you can help: Become a "W.O.O.F. & P.A.W.S." sponsor to help your favorite animal group, shelter or sanctuary find homes for the birds, bunnies, cats, dogs or pigs in their care that have been waiting to find their forever homes!
Your "W.O.O.F. & P.A.W.S." sponsorship ad will include:
A photo of the animal/bird you are sponsoring | The animal/bird’s name, age, breed and gender | Your logo
Your website & phone number | The animal group’s name, website & phone number
You also can sponsor a "W.O.O.F. & P.A.W.S." ad in honor of or in memory of a loved one that deserves special recognition.
